The teams' last-round clash became a virtual final, as they were the only quintets in contention after the first eight rounds.
It was back-to-back wins for Auckland which won the 2016 title on the Chisholm Links last November.
Otago's woes continued yesterday as it went down to Northland 3-2 with no chance to add to its tally with a bye in the final round.
That left Otago in a disappointing 15th place with 0.5 points and 8½ games from the eight matches.
No1 Andrew Hobbs got off to a flyer, winning the first three holes to go three ahead.
His opponent, Saali Herewini, then birdied the next three holes to get back to square which was the score at the turn.
Herewini finished strongly winning 12, 13 and 15 to go three ahead and the match finished on the 16th green.
Stephen Hitchcox played some of his best golf against Brett Downer but the match was in doubt until he won the final hole to win 1-up.
There was never more than one in it the match between Otago No3 Simon Hollyer and Peter Bone.
However, Hollyer missed a short putt on the 17th green which tipped the balance in Bone's favour to enable hime to win by 2 and 1.
Northland's Bob Shirley hit every green in regulation except one in beating Gary Creedy with three holes to spare.
Ken Shaw stood down for the final match giving Otago reserve Kevin Clark another opportunity which he grabbed with two hands.
Clark's short game was in form with some impressive chipping and putting giving him a 2 and 1 win at the expense of Gavin Ashwell.
