Incredibly, the Central Otago side was well in the game during the first half hour, and even managed several shots, corners and free kicks.
But after one particularly good blocking save, Queenstown's Ian Rogers (50) sustained a groin injury, and while he bravely played on, once Technical's Tim McLennan opened the scoring after 27 minutes, it was all downhill for coach Steve Henderson's side.
Without a replacement keeper, and with fitness levels rapidly fading, the Central Otago side regularly conceded goals, despite moments of good play from the likes of Ross Mackenzie in midfield, and frontrunner Dave Lynott.
Dunedin Technical coach Mike Fridge recognised the fallibility of Queenstown, but said: "It's always pleasing to keep a clean sheet, and there was some good patterned football out there to set up so many goals."
McLennan, Andy Coburn, Brendan Gorman and Aaron Burgess all grabbed doubles for Technical, with Justin Prattley, Mike Flaws and Liam Lockhart adding the other goals.
According to historian Chris Boyd, the biggest Southern League score was in 2007, when Roslyn-Wakari beat Queenstown 13-1.
The early match at the Caledonian also threatened a goal bonanza as Mosgiel played measured football and scored regularly to clock up a 3-0 lead over Northern.
A cheeky chip by midfielder Morgan Day totally deceived Northern keeper Tom Galloway, and Day struck again with a superb diving header that flew in the net.
But a combination of Mosgiel over-confidence, and Northern spirit, threw the match wide open as Dave Henderson raced through the heart of Mosgiel's defence to score, then Will Dickinson followed suit.
Mosgiel survived to win 3-2, but that spell of slack defending is sure to be discussed at training in midweek.
Roslyn-Wakari beat Spirit FC by a single goal from Sam Mepham in an even encounter at Ellis Park.
Roslyn coach Colin Thom thought his team made plenty of chances, and should have scored more. He was particularly impressed with Jackson Rodeka.
At Ocean Grove, Caversham met unexpected resistance from Grants Braes before eventually winning 2-1. Ant Hancock scored for Caversham, James Slater equalised for Braes, and late in the match Darren Overton hit the winner.
All Varsity teams won on Saturday, with the FPL side beating Green Island 4-2. There were goals for Tim Witten-Sage, Dylan Stone, Josh Groom and an own goal.
