The sparks expected from this clash never eventuated, as Caversham dominated from start to finish, and Technical slipped into third place behind Mosgiel.
Technical missed the stability normally generated by centreback Matt Joy, who is still sidelined through injury, and despite a willing aerial effort from striker Richard Smith and aggressive miles from Taylor McCormack, there was little real penetration from the maroons.
Caversham had star striker Tom Jackson suspended after an incident last week, but coach Tim Horner's new-look team made light of his absence, and entertained with a range of skills that were spearheaded by brother Lewis Jackson, who ably deputised with a hat trick of goals.
Another bonus was the dynamic display by former goalkeeper Callum Flaws, who scored twice and produced some lung-bursting runs and a good level of skill.
Flaws attacked the near post for a right-wing cross from Brent Clifford, and got the last touch to slide Caversham into a 34th-minute lead.
Clifford went on to have a grand match full of variety, going past defenders, hitting the dead-ball line, cutting in, staying wide, delivering excellent crosses, and generally tormenting Technical.
A hamstring injury to Craig Ferguson caused Caversham's experienced defender to leave the field, but Mike Smith and Rhys Henderson pulled strings to minimise gaps.
There was nothing scrappy about Caversham's second goal in the 43rd minute, when Jackson found acres of room to plant an accurate header inside Technical's left upright.
In the second half, Ross Howard tried to inspire Technical with incisive runs up the right, but his crosses were either cleared or gobbled up by Liam Little in goal.
Flaws struck again with a strong header to make it 3-0 after 61 minutes, and the bearded flyer might have grabbed a hat trick when he sent another header just wide of the post.
Substitute Alistair Rickerby at last got Technical on the board when he tidied in after a shot had beaten Little and came back off the crossbar, but five minutes later the elusive running of Jackson led to Caversham's fourth goal.
Jackson's last strike showed masterly technique. In a crowded goalmouth, he killed a vertical ball, then almost casually chose his spot to complete the scoring.
''Our passing game went well. Keeping the ball low, we stretched them and made space,'' Horner said.
Completing a good day for the club, Caversham's reserves thumped Technical 4-0, with goals from Charles Owen, Sam Cosgrove, Richard Murray and Tim Cook.
Mosgiel coach Andrew Brook also had to be happy with a 4-2 win over Northern.
''Four goals scored, we move above Technical, and the Plainsmen still have the Challenge Shield, so that can't be bad,'' Brook said.
Two rare headed goals by Tim Dunn set Mosgiel up, yet showing signs of improvement, Northern battled back into the game with goals from Taylor Quirk and Henry Conway.
Roslyn-Wakari beat Queenstown 3-2 at Ellis Park. Roslyn captain Aajay Cunningham scored, and young Ben O'Farrell celebrated his return from a camp at the National Talent Centre by hammering in a couple of goals.
At Sunnyvale, home advantage was not quite enough for Green Island as University picked up its second win of the season, 2-1.
