Caversham increased its lead in the Footballsouth Premier League with a comfortable 5-1 win over Mosgiel at Memorial Park on Saturday.
With second-placed Dunedin Technical on a bye, the South Dunedin club now has a four-point lead over its great rival with three matches remaining.
Caversham never looked seriously threatened and goalkeeper Liam Little dealt with most Mosgiel attacks with ease.
Some good attacking work down Caversham's right flank in the 25th minute saw a well-directed cross get cut back to Evan Jones.
The striker showed good technique to clip a half volley past Mosgiel keeper Tom Stevens to open the scoring.
The second goal was well constructed. Harley Rodeka showed a classic example of assertive overlapping at pace, latching on to a nice pass from Ben Hawkey to attack the byline.
An accurate near-post cross and a well-timed Tim Cook run to meet the ball had Caversham go into the break with a two-goal lead.
A second-half double by Andrew Ridden, including a quality volley, and a further goal by Cook had Caversham scoring five, with a late reply by Morgan Day on behalf of Mosgiel.
In an even encounter at Ellis Park, Roslyn-Wakari maintained third place in the league when it came from behind to snatch a 2-1 victory over Queenstown Rovers.
Ian Lowe scored for the visitors in the 55th minute when he made a well-timed run to beat the Roslyn defensive line.
Showing composure, he rounded keeper Peter Evans and slotted the goal home for Rovers.
Roslyn gained parity in the 63rd minute when Jackson Rodeka netted after an accurate cross supplied by Damien Foster.
The Ellis Park locals claimed all the points in the 80th minute when impressive midfielder Mike Sannum switched play with a long ball to find the unmarked Rodeka.
After his initial shot was blocked, roving defender Tom Connor converted with a simple tap-in.
Green Island was too strong for Grants Braes, winning 6-1.
Northern completed a horror run of four home losses when beaten 4-1 by University.
Northern has leaked 22 goals during the barren spell and will look for inspiration when it travels to Queenstown next weekend.
