Dunedin Technical put on one of its best FootballSouth Premier League performances for many years when it deservedly beat an out-of-sorts Caversham team 3-0 at the Caledonian Ground on Saturday.

The win gave Technical a three-point lead over second-placed Roslyn Wakari.

Technical made the prefect start, turning a mountain of possession into a goal. It took the lead in the 13th minute when goalkeeper Tom Batty delivered a long clearance forward.

Striker Richard Smith showed superb technique to chest pass the ball into the path of Justin Flaws, who subsequently set up Alistair Rickerby with a defence-splitting pass. Rickerby showed pace and composure to round Caversham goalie Liam Little and slide the ball into an empty net.

In-form Rickerby was a constant threat to the Caversham defence and made it pay again in the 29th minute.

Match referee Jeff Clamp showed good use of the advantage law when he ruled play on for a minor Caversham infringement, with Technical still in possession. Rickerby found time and space 25m out to drive home a spectacular shot into the top left-hand corner.

In the 42nd minute, Richard Smith rounded off a dream first half for Dunedin Technical, when he a finished off a knock-down header from a corner using good anticipation skills.

After another top-of-the-table clash, Roslyn Wakari will be ruing spurned opportunities as it was held to a 0-0 draw by University at Ellis Park.

A missed penalty by Cam Attwood and a foul on a University defender just before Roslyn put the ball in the back of the net added to the pressure-cooker finish.

Queenstown and Mosgiel scored excellent wins in the battle for points at the other end of the competition. Mosgiel had a good 3-0 win over Northern at Memorial Park.

Under pressure during the first 25 minutes, the home side held its composure and counter-attacked successfully in the 15 minutes before the break.

Tim Dunn netted two quality strikes from inside the box, while Cody Brook got forward to head home a partially saved shot.

In Queenstown, Carlos Hermann showed the benefit of excellent close control and passing vision in an inspired return with the home team running out a 5-2 victor.

The Brazilian set up Tom Cairns for the first goal before claiming his first with a tidy finish from 12m out.

A second-half brace to Ramzi Toumi and a quality strike to Pedro Neto completed the scoring. Old Boys players Jack Boland and James Tucker replied for the visiting side.

Green Island bounced back to winning form with a 3-0 victory over a disappointing Grants Braes at Ocean Grove.
