Football: Caversham seems certain to secure another title

Caversham will host Grants Braes in the long-awaited final match of the premier club season in Dunedin today.

Caversham knows any result other than a large loss will lock away the premier league trophy for another year.

Due to many football grounds being prepared for summer sports codes, the match will be played at the Oval with a 2.45pm kick-off.

Caversham will look to cap off an impressive season with a 17th win. A solitary draw is the only blip in a perfect league record.

This league form, and its effort in reaching the Chatham Cup semifinals where it was beaten on penalties, must have this team rated among the very best in the Tonga Park-based club's history.

Caversham has farewelled outstanding goalkeeper James Waggett, who has transferred back to England, while Robbie Deeley will play his final game before his imminent departure for Australia.

Grants Braes will be aiming for at least a point to secure seventh place and an overall pass mark for its continued gradual improvement.

It will be without injured defender Tim Hyland, who suffered concussion last week, and will farewell instrumental central defenders Ben Eder and Tiwai Wilson, who play their last match for Braes.
