Dunedin Technical extended its lead at the top of Footballsouth Premier League with a comprehensive 7-0 win against University on Saturday.
But despite enjoying a nine-point buffer over the second-placed Caversham, Dunedin Technical coach Mike Fridge believes Caversham is well-placed to win its 10th league title in 11 years.
"You have to be realistic," Fridge said.
"I think Caversham are still the favourites. From our point of view all we can do is win our last game next week and just see what happens.
"No disrespect to the teams Caversham has got left, but you'd expect them to win.
"Even if they were to lose one, it would come down to goal difference."
Chatham Cup commitments and poor weather have seen Caversham play just 13 league games, while Dunedin Technical has completed 17 matches.
That means there is still plenty of points on offer for Caversham.
The only question is whether there will be time to play the remaining games, Fridge said.
"It is one of those unfortunate things ...
"But the teams that they have left to play might have to sit around for two or three weeks waiting for their turn to play Caversham.
"But that is Footballsouth's problem. I have no idea how they are going to sort it out."
Dunedin Technical scored three goals in a stunning opening 11 minutes to take control of the fixture.
University struggled to get out of its own half and was pressed into mistakes.
Experienced striker Aaron Burgess scored two goals and Andy Coburn also bagged a double.
In the other games, Green Island and Spirit FC drew 3-3, Mosgiel beat Roslyn-Wakari 3-2 and Northern dispatched Queenstown 4-2.
