Cricket: Dykes confident Volts will play in $12m tournament

No news is good news, hopefully.

That is the view of Otago Cricket Association Ross Dykes.

The Indian Champions League committee held a planning meeting in South Africa on Friday and was expected to make some announcements regarding the $12 million twenty/20 tournament, including confirming Otago's participation.

But Dykes had not heard any news when the Otago Daily Times approached him for comment yesterday.

He believes the committee may have delayed making any announcement until the Indian Premier League has wound up.

So the wait goes on for the Volts.

New Zealand Cricket chief executive Justin Vaughan has remained confident Otago would be included in the lucrative tournament since it claimed the domestic twenty/20 title when the March final was washed out.

Vaughan hoped to confirm Otago's participation within a few weeks of the final but that was nearly three months ago and there is still no new information.

The official website is stuck in a time warp with dated press releases outlining the abandonment of last year's tournament following terrorist attacks in Mumbai.
