The New Zealanders won by 84 runs, clinching the three-game series early.
It was a great day for Hay. His maiden ODI 50 so nearly became a century as he top-scored with an unbeaten 99 off 78 balls as New Zealand made 292 for eight in their 50 overs. He also took four catches.
Pakistan’s top-order batters failed to fire as the Black Caps seamers took charge. Ben Sears dismissed Salman Ali Agha for nine in the 11th over, his first ODI wicket, and went on to take another four.
Jacob Duffy’s three for 35 was his best return in ODIs.
None of Pakistan’s first five batsmen made double figures, and the visitors were 72 for seven at one stage.
Faheem Ashraf brought some respectability to the score with 73, and Naseem Shah made 51 in the final stages but the failure of the top order was telling in the end.
Duffy has just taken the top spot in the latest ICC men’s T20I bowling rankings which came out last night.
