Albion 244 for seven beat Kaikorai 147

Albion went "slightly mental" at Bishopscourt on Saturday.

And fair enough. It is not every day a player takes a hat trick and finishes up with five wickets from 17 balls.

But that is exactly what right-arm medium pacer Dominic Crombie managed.

Kaikorai had slumped to 55 for five in reply to Albion's total of 244 for seven.

But Ben Donkers (58) and Kurtis Weeks (34) put on 76 for the sixth wicket with a wonderful counterattack.

But enter Crombie. He broke the partnership with a cracking delivery which caught the edge of Weeks' bat.

Jeremy Smallridge was not able to keep the next ball out and was bowled.

Then Ryan Whelan poked at a short delivery and popped it to short midwicket.

"They went slightly mental," Albion stalwart Tony Buchanan said when asked about the celebration.

Crombie was not done yet. He grabbed another two to finish with five for two from 17 balls. That is a rapid five-wicket bag and a day he will remember for a while.

Earlier, Jack Coman batted superbly and top-scored for Albion with 94.

North East Valley 300 for five beat University-Grange 158

Llew Johnson smashed 126 from 120 balls to help his side dispatch University-Grange at Tonga Park.

The fringe Otago batsman clouted 14 fours and four sixes as his side posted 300 for five.

Sam Tallot played an important role as well. He scored 85 and combined in a massive 198-run stand for the second wicket with Johnson.

The 19-year-old Johnson played three twenty20 matches for Otago last season without much success. But his innings at the weekend should have got him back in selection conversation, given how poorly Otago has batted in the Plunket Shield this summer.

Another player who might pop up in those selection conversations next season is Travis Muller. The seamer took four for eight to help condemn Grange's chase to a modest 158. He has 13 wickets at an average of 10.62 in six one-day games this season.

Declan Su'a helped wrap up the 142-run win with three for 12 from four overs.

Matt Worsnop top-scored for Grange with 64.

Green Island 235 beat Taieri 104

A clinical effort with the ball powered Green Island to a 131-run win against Taieri at Brooklands Park.

Green Island wicketkeeper-batsman Brad Kneebone made sure the seamers had plenty to work with. He top-scored with 74 from 103 deliveries in a patient knock.

He combined with Gregor Croudis (43) in a 73-run stand for the third wicket, and Mark Joyce (29) and Hamish Drummond (24) provided some momentum to help Green Island post 235.

Taieri left-armer Marcus Frost was expensive but he picked up three wickets, while Jack Hunter's two for 44 represented a solid outing.

But spinner Ben Lockrose was the pick with one for 31 from 10 overs. Taieri's chase faltered almost immediately, although Tim King was threatening until he was run out for 38.

And Callum Egen swatted 20 from 17, but the tail capitulated and Taieri was all out for 104.

Former Otago left-armer Blair Soper reminded the selectors he is still around with two for 19.

But Christi Viljoen starred with three for 16, while leg spinner Jack Mockford picked up two wickets in five balls to wrap up the match.
