Otago Girls’ High School are through to the national secondary school finals thanks to a comfortable 50-run win against St Hilda’s Collegiate in the Bates Cup final at Bayfield Park on Monday.
Opener Kate Ballantyne crafted an undefeated 36 from 60 balls to get her side through to 112 from six from their 20 overs.
St Hilda’s conceded way too many extras — 49 — to that total.
Charlotte Stafford was the pick of the St Hilda’s bowlers. She claimed three for 19.
But the chase fell apart.
Ava Couling nabbed three for nine from 2.1 overs, and Ballantyne and Alice Ussher took two apiece.
Sophie Deerness top-scored for St Hilda’s with 16, and Megha Senthilkumar swatted 14.
But St Hilda’s were rolled for just 62.
Columba College beat Wakatipu High School by eight wickets in the playoff for third and fourth.
