Janet Swallow collected her second consecutive North East Valley women's classic pairs title and her share of the prize money.

But the big winner was her lead, Cathy King.

The pair teamed up to beat Kay Hammond and Jo-Ann Marshall 15-7 in the final yesterday.

They won the first five ends to lead 7-0 and stretched the margin to 13-3 on the 12th end with a three. It was a comfortable win and a familiar feeling for both.

Swallow teamed up with Angie Francis to win the event last year. And King, well, her family is on a winning-streak.

Her husband, Paul King, defeated former Otago golf representative Brent McEwan 21-18 in the final of the Champion of Champion singles a couple of weeks ago.

Cathy also won the junior women's single title and teamed up with her daughter, Shannon Eathorne, last weekend to win the junior fours title. It has been quite a month for the Kings.

Now all she needs to do is talk son and Otago Sparks coach Nathan King into playing bowls so the family can complete the set, she joked.

Swallow and King had to work a little harder in the semifinal. They beat Vicki Robinson and Linda Holdaway 15-11.

Hammond and Marshall ran away with their semi against Christine King and Hilda Bennett, winning 12-5. But they struggled early in the final.

"We've had some good ends and some not so good ends. But we fought tooth and nail to get this far," Swallow said.

"Cathy was really on her game and I was really chuffed with her and the way she played."

Swallow said the blustery conditions made it difficult.

"But we just had to push hard and we're absolutely thrilled."

First prize was $2200 and Swallow plans to put her share towards an overseas trip.

It is not a bad return for three days' work. The second-placed pair collected $1100.
