A change of club has not led to a change in fortune for Keanu Darby.
Darby, teaming up with Mike Bracegirdle, proved too strong as the Forbury Park combination beat Niel Louw and Blair Barringer (Taieri) in the final of the Bowls Dunedin men’s centre pairs on Sunday.
Played in near-perfect conditions at North East Valley, the game featured many tight heads as all four players contributed to an enjoyable spectacle for those watching.
The scoreline was tight early on, until the Forbury Park pair outscored Taieri 8-1 in four ends, including a five on the 12th end.
With the score at 16-7, this proved to be too much of a
lead, and the final score was 18-11.
This was a ninth centre title for Darby, while Bracegirdle secured his eighth.
Of special significance was the fact that this was the third open pairs victory in a row for Darby.
The previous two were with Roger Stevens when they were both playing for North East Valley. — APL
