Otago plays host to national blind bowls tournament

Otago bowlers Arpi Rouvi and Michael Bardrick follow guide Chris Moffitt during the national blind and visually impaired bowls championships on Saturday.

The event was hosted at the Otago Indoor Bowls Association in Victoria Rd.

The championships  began  on Saturday and ended yesterday. Saturday’s pairs event was won by Whanganui team Ken Frederickson and Sarah Fallen, with guide Phyllis Jones.

They beat Lynn Keogh, Lance Patterson and guide Kevin Keogh 13-4 in the final. Louise Henry and guide Christine Foster claimed the  women’s singles totally blind title, while Colleen Price and guide Francis Twomey won the partially sighted event. Bill Walshaw,  with guide Elizabeth Smith,  is the men’s singles partially sighted champion, while Russell Lowery and guide Maureen Conwell won the totally blind title. Walshaw took  the partially sighted champion of champion event.

Lowery won the totally blind champion of champion title. In yesterday’s fours final, Maria Low, Lynn Keogh, Lance Patterson, Tangi Rouvi and guide Kevin Keogh emerged as the winners, 7-4.
