Otago will be well represented at national events over the next month.
Arie Bloemsaat, of the St Brigid’s Club, gets things under way this weekend. He heads to Wellington for the national junior singles finals, a tournament in which Otago has a good record. Jonty Horwell, now making his mark in lawn bowls, won the event in 2014 and 2016.
Two weekends later, Brandon Williams (23), of the Wakari club, will head to Palmerston North for the Henselite national singles final.
He showed his dominance in the local stages of the event, beating Daniel French 13-4 in the final.
A week later, the Otago mixed fours team travels to Auckland for the national finals. Nick Sinclair, Ross Garner, Ann Cottrell and Raewyn Keighley qualified by winning the southern regional tournament.
