The Invercargill girl, along with her mother Penny Tattersfield and her brother Louis (1), were among the people who arrived early on the first day of the event in search of some good bargains to take home.
She said she was not looking for anything special, but their family ended up with more than 20 books.
"I love to read ... any kind of book really."
Mrs Tattersfield said all family members were voracious readers.
"We come here every year and it is really good.
"It is important to stimulate the children to read books from a young age."
The annual book sale started yesterday and will be on at Invercargill Public Library until Friday, where thousands of books are for sale.
