An Invercargill man sent nude photos of his ex-partner to her sister; a court has heard.
The man and his victim were in a four-year relationship that ended in April, the court heard.
The police summary said twice during their time together the defendant made a secret recording of the woman without her approval.
The first time, she went into the bedroom of the home where they lived together to change a piece of clothing.
He followed her and filmed her while she undressed.
The second incident took place a year later, when he took another intimate recording when she was in her bedroom.
During the month of their break-up, the defendant sent two images of his then partner naked to her sister via Snapchat.
The first showed her topless; the second included the victim’s genitalia.
In court, counsel Scott Williamson said his client had no history of this type of offending.
He also explained there would be further consequences for the man as the charges had led to issues in another jurisdiction.
"It’s really the start of something, rather than the end of it," Mr Williamson said.
Judge Duncan Harvey said the victim’s sister being the only recipient of the social media posting was a decisive factor.
"The court treats this type of offending very seriously indeed ... the only thing that saves you from going to prison is a very limited distribution," he said.
He sentenced the man to 150 hours’ community work and ordered a protection order in favour of the complainant.
