A stop Co-Governance tour continues to run into problems with venue cancellation since the start of its tour in the South Island last week.

The Invercargill Workingman’s Club was set to host the event tomorrow night and Sunday night, but cancelled the bookings yesterday.

Club manager Neill McDowall said the decision was made due to feedback from the community.

A small number of staff had also called in sick, he said.

"We’re just not confident that we were able to accommodate it without too much hassle — and I don’t mean hassle for any other reason, just from an operational point of view."

Meeting organiser Julian Batchelor was not entirely surprised by the cancellation, but said another venue for the meeting had been quickly secured. He was not able to reveal the new venue.

"When free-speech is cancelled, you know that society is sick."

When asked what it was he was being prevented from saying, he said people were "ignorant about the Treaty [of Waitangi]".

Meetings in Dunedin, Balclutha and Gore have all had to switch venues over the past week.
