Documents released last week showed Mr Skelt was the subject of a sexual harassment complaint from an 18-year-old female staff member before his departure as manager of ILT
Stadium Southland last month.
ILT Stadium Southland interim chairman Hayden Rankin said yesterday it had engaged a Christchurch barrister to carry out an external independent review of how the matter was handled.
He said the barrister was experienced in those types of investigations and believed it could take four to six weeks to be completed.
"However, this will be dependent on the investigator’s workload.
"We look forward to what will be an independent and thorough review."
Mr Rankin said the board would not make any comment until the investigation was concluded.
The complaint against Mr Skelt included an allegation he asked the stadium staff member if she would be keen to do jelly wrestling naked.
Invercargill Mayor Nobby Clark, who is also a stadium trustee, was informed of the incidents in a resignation letter in February, and worked to resolve the complaint by issuing a "serious warning" to Mr Skelt, directing him to get psychological counselling and closely monitoring his behaviour.
He also offered the teenager $3000 to cover lost income and counselling for the trauma and the option of working somewhere else at the stadium or at ILT.
Mr Skelt was also an Invercargill city councillor but resigned last week.
