Police probe retail burglaries

Police are continuing to investigate a series of burglaries and robberies at commercial premises in Invercargill.

A police spokesman said yesterday that it was investigating three pharmacy burglaries in Invercargill between February and March, as well the robbery of a Night ’n Day in Tay St on Wednesday. No arrests had been made.

"Three offenders were seen leaving the premises [Night ’n Day] with items from the store," he said.

Detective Constable Pete Smallfield confirmed some drugs were stolen in the burglaries at the pharmacies.

Also stolen was a selection of perfumes and colognes.

Police believed two burglaries on March 1 may be linked, but they were not thought to be linked to the February burglary.

"While we have no reason to believe the public should be specifically concerned about this type of offending, it is a timely reminder for businesses to review their security systems," he said.
