People inside two cars have escaped without serious injury after a fiery, high-speed crash on the outskirts of Invercargill overnight.
Police said a vehicle travelling at high speed collided with another vehicle on North Rd, Lorneville about 12.10am.
Both vehicles burst into flames.
Everyone inside the vehicles managed to get out safely but several were taken to hospital for treatment.
Their injuries were not believed to be serious.
A lamppost was struck in the crash and lighting in the area was likely to be affected while contractors carried out repairs.
The road was reopened about 2.20pm, NZTA said on Twitter.
A Serious Crash Unit was investigating.
