High spirits at beer, wine and food festival

Jaws were well greased at Hop’n’Vine’s latest festival at the weekend as hundreds of thirsty supporters got their hands on a range of arty beers from across the country.

The Southland Beer, Wine and Wild Food Festival was held for its seventh year at ILT Stadium Southland in Invercargill, and while the turnout was down on previous years, spirits were high and the atmosphere was humming.

The Factory brewery owner and operator Hugo Zaat said it was their fourth time at the event, which was always a fun day out.

"Always enjoy it — good atmosphere, great amount of people and of course great beers are more awesome."

Crimson Badger sales manager Matt Ward said their Ginger Beer was once again proving popular at the festival.

"Things are going well and the stadium’s filling up, which is great to see.

"We have a good local following down in Invercargill, so it’s pretty nice to be part of the event. It’s always great, locals come out and they recognise the brand and the products ... We always push a few kegs, we bought two more this year, so hopefully it will sell out again."

Hop’n’Vine co-organiser Chris Montgomery said the event was more than just a celebration of craft beer and wild food, but a great day for people to catch up over a drink and run into people they had not seen in a while.
