Among them were James Hargest High School junior pupils (from left) Mason Ladbrook (11), Eifion Dudfield (11), Kate Oosterbroek (11) and Kate Lindsay (10).
The children started year 7 at the school — which meant new friends, a new campus and new teachers.
‘‘I was very excited to meet all the new friends and catch up with the old ones. Everything went all right,’’ Kate Lindsay said.
Associate principal Jeanette Chinton-Smith said about 285 children attended the first day of the school year.
However, the traditional pupils’ march had to be cancelled due to the weather.
‘‘It was a shame — but we had a lot of fun, anyway. It was a busy day with induction, children meeting their new teachers and some games. We are ready for the new year.’’
