On Friday, Blue Mountain College’s street sign-message board declared "School for Sale" following departing leavers’ high-jinks the preceding night, giving hungry Tapanui house hunters the chance of a lifetime to pick up a bargain.
Deputy principal Pete Davies said the tongue-in-cheek switch had been accompanied by a Facebook post "listing" the college for just $100,000.
"Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity, it’s not very often a gem like this comes on the market. With at least 20 rooms and 5 bathrooms, its very own gym, science labs and woodwork room this won’t last long . Going cheap, quick sale!! $100,000!!!!" the post said.
Mr Davies described the prank as "good, clean fun".
"We always have a few year 13 pranks, and this reflects what a cool wee group these guys have been. We’ll be sad to see them go."
Mr Davies said that no offers of purchase had been received as of the close of business yesterday.
