Balclutha police arrested two 16-year-old Kaitangata youths yesterday and charged them with arson in connection with a Kaitangata shed fire early yesterday.
The Kaitangata Volunteer Fire Brigade was called to a shed fire on a vacant Water St section about 3am.
Police said that the shed was well ablaze and the fire was endangering foliage surrounding it.
The shed was totally destroyed by the fire.
Police spoke to a group of five youths found nearby and two were arrested and charged with arson.
Constable Andrew Denny, of Balclutha, said the teenagers arrested yesterday were being held in custody overnight and would appear in the Balclutha District Court today on arson charges.
Police were also looking into other recent fires in the district and further charges could follow, Const Denny said.
The two arrested youths had also admitted to the arson of a 1987 Honda Accord car at a Kaitangata address on November 2, police said in a press release last night.
