Director Luke Robb and his team of musical director Ella Thomas and choreographer Emma Robb have been immersing the talented young cast in everything ’80s since January.
In a statement, Mr Robb said working with the students had been a rewarding experience.
"It feels great to come back to the SCDL and direct another show for them and see how far the cast members have grown since I last worked with them. I love pushing young actors and passing on some of the things that I have learnt over the years while also helping them to grow as performers.
"Fame Jr and 80s Extravaganza has been a show like no other as we attempt to create a night filled with nostalgia, loud music, and of course, entertainment.
"Everyone has had to lift their game as we bring you a show that is fast-paced and full of exciting numbers that will knock your socks off.
"It has been great seeing it all come together this week as all the hard work that Emma and Ella have done to fill this show with ’80s hits starts to come to life.
"I could not have done this without them.
"This is sure to be a performance that you do not want to miss."
The first half comprises Fame Jr, the musical based on the smash hit movie and television series of the same name which includes the hit title song and a touching coming-of-age story.
Act two then cranks up the nostalgia with an all-out celebration of classic ’80s hits such as Thriller, Footloose, Eternal Flame, Total Eclipse of the Heart, and many more.
Musical director Thomas said she was pumped to be bringing back the ’80s, with neon, shoulder pads, leg warmers and all.
"And with a cast of talented students who love performing, this show is life imitating art. Many students from drama league shows have gone on to study at performing arts schools in New Zealand, Australia and the US and these kids definitely understand the hard work involved in being on the stage."
Fame Jr and 80s Extravaganza runs from April 3 to 12 at the Playhouse in Church St and is suitable for all ages.
Tickets can be purchased online from iticket.co.nz or in person.
