Agent appeals reprimand

Waimate real estate agent David Owen has appealed a reprimand by the Real Estate Agents' Authority over an allegation he tried to claim a commission to which he was not entitled.

In a decision released this week, the authority upheld a complaint against Mr Owen, a former long-serving Waimate mayor, by another agent in Waimate, also ordering him to write letters of apology to the agent and the buyers of a section in Makikihi .

Mr Owen said yesterday he had lodged an appeal last week against the authority's complaints assessment committee decision and had evidence to prove his case.

He had not heard from the authority when the appeal would be heard or a decision made, but was confident he could prove his case.

The complaint related to the sale of a section in Makikihi, the buyers looking at adjacent lots with Mr Owen and the second agent on the same day.

The couple bought one of the sections through the other agent and Mr Owen wrote to that agent asking for a share of the commission.
