A wanted man who fled police was arrested in Mosgiel yesterday thanks to help from the public.

A police spokesman said they arrested the man, who had an outstanding warrant, in Tay St about 1.20pm.

After receiving information on the whereabouts of the man, officers arrived at a Murray St address only to find the man had fled on foot.

Cordons were put in place around the surrounding streets while they worked to locate the man.

"Thanks to information from the public, police were able to track and locate the man at an address on Tay St, where he was taken into custody without incident," the spokesman said.

A growing police presence — including two canine units and six other officers — were seen surrounding the address, and could be heard telling the man to come out, before entering and arresting him about half an hour later.
