A restricted temporary bypass is now in place on the washed-out Kinloch Rd, at the top of Lake Wakatipu.

The road was washed away last Saturday and led to the isolation of people in the Kinloch area.

The Queenstown Lakes District Council was investigating options and on Tuesday said it was looking at a temporary road through private property.

In an update today the council said Kinloch Road remained impassable and would remain closed for several more days

Good progress had been made on a temporary access to allow vehicles in and out of the area.

Construction was still under way, but it was now safe enough to open the road from noon today for 10-minute intervals, on the hour.

Opening times for today are:

12.00pm – 12.10pm

1.00pm to 1.10pm

2.00pm to 2:10pm

3.00pm to 3.10pm

4.00pm to 4.10pm

The council said the plan for tomorrow was much the same - to open every hour, on the hour, for 10-minute intervals between 8am and 5pm.

An update about the weekend will be provided on Friday afternoon.
