Subject to final sign-off, the opening credits of the first film screening in Queenstown’s newest complex could be rolling by Boxing Day.

Auckland-based Neil Lambert, who owns a chain of Silky Otter cinemas across New Zealand, is readying to open his seventh complex in the new research and innovation building at Frankton’s Remarkables Park.

"We’re hopeful of a Boxing Day opening — it all hinges on the magic wand of those higher up.

"We’re excited to bring it to town."

The complex comprises eight basement cinemas each with 48 recliner seats with little tables in front for in-house food and drinks.

The opening bill includes Gladiator II, Wicked, Moana 2, Mufasa: The Lion King, Better Man and Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

"Then there’s more to come as the weeks roll on," Lambert says.

There’ll be five to six screenings a day in each cinema between about 10am and 9pm.

Confirmation of the opening day will be on the Silky Otter Cinemas Queenstown Facebook page and Instagram account.
