Storytime for children and a swag of activities for kids and grown-ups lent a festive atmosphere to the official opening of the new Frankton Library on Saturday.

The library opened in December, but the weekend's event was held to mark the facility's new team and systems becoming fully operational.

It is on the ground floor of Remarkables House on the corner of Hawthorne and Red Oaks Dr, and is expected to operate for up to three years while a permanent site is found.

The honour of cutting the ribbon with Mayor Jim Boult was given to Frankton resident Pat Paulin, who has persistently lobbied the council for such a facility for years.

The pop-up library service at the Queenstown Events Centre stopped lending items in December, but borrowers can still return items there during its normal opening hours.

Activities included storytime with children's book author Kyle Mewburn, and poetry readings by Annabel Wilson, Erik Kennedy and David Eggleton.
