A Halfway Bay Station spokesman said the barge was destined for the high-country property on the western shore of Lake Wakatipu.
The 17,000ha sheep and beef farm could only be accessed by boat.
The barge from Tauranga would be used to transport ''farm goods in and out'', he said.
