Art River Jet Safaris and Ngai Tahu Tourism will this weekend celebrate the blessing of the recently refurbished Dart River Jet Safaris visitor centre at Glenorchy.
The occasion marks the installation tomorrow of a kohatu pounamu, given by the Southern Runaka Kaitiaki Pounamu Group. Its homecoming will connect Dart River Jet Safaris to a site of cultural significance, the sacred waters of Te Koroka, otherwise known as Slip Stream.
Pounamu is believed to embody a spiritual energy that is shared with all those who touch it and is a powerful symbol of the tribe's relationship to the land.
Ngai Tahu described pounamu as a "very significant stone".
