Quake northwest of Wanaka

Residents in the Queenstown Lakes area were shaken this evening by a magnitude 4.1 earthquake, centred about 25km northwest of Wanaka.

Geonet reported the quake, which struck at 6.13pm, was at a depth of 15km and described it as "moderate".

Reports left on Geonet's website show the quake was felt from as far away as Alexandra and Haast, but all described its intensity as either light or weak.
