Programme aims for 1000 ambassadors

Queenstown Resort College (QRC) is aiming for more than 1000 bookings of its Queenstown Ambassador programme this year and has adapted the programme for Wanaka.

The tertiary vocational institution has inducted more than 500 Wakatipu business operators and individuals as Queenstown Ambassadors since the three-hour course was launched in June last year.

The Queenstown programme is designed to give residents welcoming and positive information about Wakatipu for visitors.

Prominent tourism, hospitality and retail operators, as well as the Queenstown Lakes District Council, have endorsed the initiative.

The college launched Wanaka Ambassador, in conjunction with the Wanaka Chamber of Commerce, on January 29.

''Our second programme ran on February 12 and advance bookings are very strong,'' QRC business development co-ordinator Clodagh Hall said.

''We would like the Queenstown community to get behind the programme even more this year, so we can ensure the ambassador 'black diamond' has a strong presence in the market and so generate more ambassadors.''

Queenstown Ambassador runs every Friday in QRC House, from 9am to noon.

The Wanaka programme runs fortnightly on Wednesdays, in the Wanaka Hotel, from 9am to noon.
