Police on trail of fleeing driver

A driver seen "doing burnouts" on Frankton Rd early yesterday is being sought by police, after he fled at speeds of up to 130kmh and crashed his car into a Goldfield Heights garden.

Sergeant Keith Newell yesterday said police spotted the dark blue Subaru at 2.50am before the vehicle fled and police abandoned the chase "due to the excessive speed it was travelling at".

About four minutes later, the car was found crashed through the fence of a property at Highview Tce.

Sgt Newell said the man driving had spoken to the occupants and neighbours of the address, before taking off the car's registration plates and departing.

"However, he left behind the registration label on the road," Sgt Newell said.

He was confident the "strong leads" police were following would result in an arrest.
