The Hills will again be alive with the sound of music next year, as an open-air concert will be held on the penultimate day of the 2013 NZ PGA Championship featuring Arrowtown band the Lynch Mob.
The tournament director, Michael Glading, said the popular family band would support rising Auckland singer Jamie McDell, previously announced as the headline act.
The Lynch Mob is well-known throughout the region for its crowd-pleasing music which Mr Glading guaranteed would get even the most reluctant dancers on their feet. The band's most celebrated gig was its 2010 ''Over the Top Rock'' performance of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, played on Cecil Peak, overlooking Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu.
Four of the six-member band were siblings, with Emma Pullar on vocals and her brothers Ben, Nick and Tom Lynch on vocals and lead guitar, keyboard and bass respectively.
Drummer Marc Hamilton and vocalist Stacey McDonald completed the line-up.
Ms Pullar said she and the band were very much looking forward to the night.
''It's such a spectacular setting at The Hills.
''The new location of entertainment area The 19th means we'll have an amazing amphitheatre for the audience.
''It'll be a great night.''
Mr Glading said the concert - free to those attending the championship event - was guaranteed to be an entertainment highlight amid four days of stunning golf. The line-up of golfing greats already includes United States golfer Hale Irwin, top Australian golfer Brendan Jones, and Kiwi golfer and title-holder Michael Hendry. The list of ''celebrities'' included teen golf sensation Lydia Ko, golfing legend Sir Bob Charles, TV personality and former cricketer Mark Richardson, and flamboyant English cricket all-rounder Sir Ian Botham.
Tickets are now on sale for the 2013 NZ PGA Championship which will run from February 28 to March 3. Tickets cost $55 for the season (all four days), or $20 a day for Thursday and Friday, and $30 a day for Saturday or Sunday. Tickets for children aged between 10 and 17 cost $15 for Saturday only, with free entry all other days.
Children under 10 will be admitted free of charge throughout the tournament.
