Music festival organisation set to start

After the hustle and bustle of winter dies down, the owners of Subculture nightclub are looking to ramp up music festival organisation for the 2013 Shotover Sunshine Festival, held every two years - and possibly next winter.

Queenstown's Antonia Crowley and Simon "Downtown Brown" Hendl put the bar on the market in early May, looking to make a change to a family-focused lifestyle, after eight years in the business.

Four months later, despite interest in the nightclub, which is popular with local fans of bass-heavy music, there was "still nothing set in stone", Miss Crowley said.

Not that they are in any rush, with the couple set to start work on the 2013 follow-up to last February's inaugural - and successful - Shotover Sunshine Festival, something they are "very excited about".

"We are going to start working on that in another month or so, putting down the foundation and getting the artists in."

She yesterday ruled out the possibility of a festival this summer, but said they might be looking to create something for next winter, but declined to reveal further details.

"Not at this stage," she said.

"It's a secret."
