The Queenstown Mountain Bike Club's second annual 7 X 7 endurance cross-country mountainbike race was a "great cohesion of people, their bikes and a love for dirt", club president Lance Brown said.

The event was a seven-hour single-track race over trails built and maintained by the club.

Mr Brown said 90 competitors had to ride laps of a 5.3km trail, which began and ended at Wilson's Bay, on the Glenorchy Rd.

The winner was Mark Williams, of Queenstown, who covered 85km and climbed more than 3473m in 16 laps.

The fastest lap was 20min 19sec.

The Vivan & Espie single-speed team won the men's team prize and Brake Hose won the women's team title.

Racer's Edge won the mixed team prize.

The entry fee was $45 per rider.

The event raised funds for trail development in the reserve.

Mr Brown said the club had been managing, maintaining and building trails in the Seven Mile reserve for over five years.

The trails in the scenic reserve beside Lake Wakatipu are "100% single-track", rated mainly intermediate and advanced.
