Long-serving volunteers honoured

Two LandSAR Wanaka volunteers were given honorary life memberships at the organisation's annual meeting this week.

Allan Gillespie, of Maungawera, and Stu Thorne, of Albert Town, notched up 65 years of service to LandSAR Wanaka between them and were among the founding members of the group.

LandSAR Wanaka chairman Roy Bailey said the pair's dedication was "outstanding".

LandSAR Wanaka police co-ordinator Sgt Aaron Nicholson also paid tribute to the men.

The meeting also included an official farewell for Mr Gillespie, who is retiring from the organisation after 32 years.

Mr Thorne retired in 2007, ending 33 years of service.
