After months of fundraising, Land Search and Rescue Wanaka has met its monetary goal for a purpose-built headquarters, following the latest round of Otago Community Trust grants.

It received the trust's largest October donation of $75,000 for its facility, to be built next to the new Wanaka police station on Ballantyne Rd.

Building project co-ordinator Phillip Melchior said the contribution - combined with other large grants, public donations and many free or discounted services and supplies - meant LandSAR Wanaka could finance the estimated $480,000 project.

Resource consent has been granted for the project and an application made for building consent. Mr Melchior hoped the project would be put out to tender early next month and construction would start in February.

The Otago Community Trust also gave $40,000 for a Wanaka Skate Park upgrade.

A total of $321,200 was distributed by the trust in October.
