Learn to measure water

A field day showing irrigators in the Gibbston valley and Arrow basin how to measure water will be held next Tuesday.

The Otago Regional Council is hosting the event, which starts at the Peregrine Winery in Gibbston valley and runs from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

It includes a visit to the Gibbston irrigation race at Camp Creek, where open-channel measuring options will be discussed.

Regional council land resources officer Bruce Monaghan said in a statement this was important, given new government regulations required everyone with a take to measure their water.

The new regulations will be discussed at the field day.

Industry and council staff will be on hand to outline water-measuring device options and costs for measuring open-channel and piped water.

The regional council encouraged all property owners in the district, both private and with scheme takes, to attend.
