Gibbston event 'a fun day out'

The Gibbston Harvest Festival is gearing up for a sixth outing - this time raising money for the Queenstown Swim Club.

The annual event, envisaged as a community-based antidote to more expensive, exclusive festivals, has raised more than $100,000 for local community groups, including the Wakatipu Junior Rugby Club, the Bruce Grant Youth Trust, the Wakatipu Trails Trust, Gibbston Trails Network, the Arrowtown Primary School PTA and the Arrowtown Cub and Scout Group.

Festival committee member Jason Moss said 100% of ticket sales for the March 19 event to be staged at Gibbston's Peregrine Wines on State Highway 6 will go to charity.

"It's a fun family day out with the focus on wine and food. It's a social, community event. It's affordable; it's not an exclusive, high-end event. It's a good way to support a local charity," Mr Moss said.

Among featured events are the "fun and jovial" chef's master classes, barrel-rolling, bouncy castles and a plethora of Wakatipu produce.

• Saturday, March 19, 11am-5pm, Peregrine Wines, SH6, Gibbston. Master classes on wine tasting and food appreciation will be held throughout the day. $15 per person for adults, and a gold-coin donation for children.

Tickets will be available on the day at the gate. http://www.gibbstonharvestfestival.com/
