Plans to form a heritage trust in honour of a Queenstown founding father and a society to link the descendants of early settlers with the resort continue to be developed.
Revell Buckham, Berry & Co lawyer and former Pioneers' Arrival Celebration steering committee member, drafted legal documents for the establishment of the proposed WG Rees Heritage Trust and First Settlers and Descendants incorporated society.
The drafts have been circulated for comment among interested parties, including the original steering committee, he said yesterday.
Mr Buckham hoped to collate feedback in three to four weeks and discussions would follow.
The trust aims to plan, fund and implement a continuing programme of activities to "preserve, promote and celebrate the rich heritage created by the district's pioneers."
The society is designed to be a catalyst for stories and memoirs to create and maintain a greater awareness and appreciation of the early days of the Wakatipu.
Heritage enthusiasts from around the world would share information.
The steering committee dissolved after organising events to mark the 150th anniversary of European arrival in Wakatipu, in February.
