The format of the two-yearly, 40-venue national tour, which begins in Wellington on February 24, was revamped to make it an unmissable event for the whole family, the ballet company announced.
General manager Amanda Skoog said the the company had performed a series of smaller pieces on previous tours, "but we decided it would be nice to give heartland New Zealand a chance to see what a full show looks like from the sets to costumes and props".
"It is more challenging to tour a larger work to so many venues, but audiences will get a better idea of what a full ballet production is like."
The tour will also see the premiere of ballet master Greg Horsman's Verdi Variations, a classical showpiece featuring sparkling tutus hand-made by the RNZB wardrobe department. Set to music by Verdi, it pays homage to Russian ballet and will feature "breathtaking solos and stunning duets", the company said.
Tickets, which cost $35 (adult) and $15 (child), are available from the events centre and Ticketdirect.
