Born in England in 1952, Boroughs studied at the Elam School of Fine Arts under Gretchen Albrecht, Don Binney and photographer John B.
Turner, and graduated with a bachelor of fine arts degree in 1975.
As well as travelling extensively, Boroughs worked as a photographer and art teacher and is now head of the art department at Auckland Boys' Grammar School.
The ground floor presents "John Edgar: In Transit", a mixture of 22 marble, stone and glass sculptures by the Auckland artist. Made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to art in 2008, Edgar has exhibited since 1979, including three touring exhibitions since 1993.
Edgar attended the public unveiling of his Lie of the Land stone sculpture, which represents the disciplines of cartography and navigation used to reach New Zealand from the United Kingdom; in the Savill Garden's New Zealand Garden, Windsor Great Park, during the London Olympic Games.
