Boat crash inquiry almost finished

An investigation into a commercial jet-boat crash at the beginning of the month is still being investigated by Maritime New Zealand.

Two Dart River Jet drivers were stood down after a collision occurred on January 4 between two company jet-boats - one carrying 13 passengers.

Maritime NZ senior media and communications adviser Steve Rendle said the investigation was further ahead, but would take a ''week or so'' to conclude.

Proceedings were held up when two investigators from Wellington visited the site of the crash on the Dart River, as one of the drivers had been concussed and they were unable to interview him at the time, Mr Rendle said.

The collision occurred about 2km upriver from the Dart River mouth, at the company's launching site. After the crash, one of the drivers and a passenger were flown to Lakes District Hospital in Queenstown with minor injuries.
