Wine festival tickets on sale next month

Tickets for the annual Oamaru Wine and Food Festival will be on sale to the public by the end of next month.

The festival takes place at the Oamaru Botanic Gardens on February 17.

Festival co-ordinator Matt Haywood said the event would repeat last year's format and focus on local produce and local entertainment.

Mr Haywood said there had been plenty of interest in next year's event, even though plans for it were still at a very early stage.

"There will be similar stalls and set-up to last year, but I am getting a lot of inquiries, especially for music and stalls," Mr Haywood said.

"Hopefully, if we get a nicer February than last year, we will get 1500 to 2000 people.

"We will get tickets out hopefully before the end of November, and then there will be a pre-Christmas price, then a post-Christmas price and then there will be a different price on the day."

Mr Haywood said cooking demonstrations would take place again next year, but the festival committee was refining details of next year's event.

This year, 38 stallholders and 14 wine producers attended the event.

To date, at least five local producers had expressed an interest in attending next year, he said.
