Like the pupils they once were, they queued up yesterday to register for the Waitaki Boys High School 125th anniversary, being held this weekend, even before the doors opened.
The anniversary is expected to attract about 650 former staff members and pupils to the school for the three-day celebrations, some attendees coming from Australia and the United States.
A huge marquee has been put up on the school's back sports fields for some of the major events.
Registration for the anniversary started at 2pm yesterday in the school library.
This morning the official welcome and combined assembly will be held in the Hall of Memories and a commemorative tree will be planted in the front gardens.
The traditional rugby match between Waitaki and St Kevins today will have a bigger crowd than usual at 1.30pm at the Whitestone Contracting Stad-ium, followed by a meet-and-greet conversazione tonight.
