They are ready to mark 160 years of their association on February 1 as they host the Royal Agricultural Society’s Southern District Premier Show, at Palmerston.
And everyone is being encouraged to show up on the day dressed in something from the past.
There will be a special exhibition of the association’s history and while the 2025 show celebrates the association’s founding in 1865 this is not its 160th show.
There had been a few years in history due to wars and pandemics where the show was not held but things were looking good for a splendid show this year, president Fiona Skevington said.
Chosen to host the third RAS Southern District Premier Show, the Palmerston show in just over two weeks will blend the traditional with the contemporary.
It will include special presentations sponsored by the RAS, and a modern twist to A&P attractions like "garden and gallery" is Palmerston’s take on the tradition home industries idea. There will even be a mullet competition.
Mrs Skevington said horse entries were coming from as far afield as Marlborough while the show also had a loyal following of cattle exhibitors.
